I Saw Joy

That’s Josie, chasing a stick thrown by Bob this morning on our walk.  Such a simple thing to chase a piece of wood but the joy on her face makes us smile.  Tomorrow we will be having dinner with some friends, also experiencing joy as we gather for Thanksgiving dinner.  As I celebrate all the big and small things I am grateful for, I will also celebrate Turkey medicine,  Give-Away.  Jamie Sams and David Carson say that Turkey is actually thought to be the Give-Away Eagle or South Eagle of many native peoples.  Give-Away  is the deep and abiding recognition of the sacrifices of both self and others.  People in modern-day society would do well to study the noble turkey who sacrifices itself so that we may live.  In Turkey’s death, we have our life.  Tomorrow I will honor Turkey.  Today, I will remember joy.

Sunrise on Lake Huron

It was a beautiful morning on Lake Huron today.  I loved the reflection of the sun on the water and started thinking about my own reflection.  What do I reflect out to the world?  How often do I check in with myself and pay attention to what I am reflecting out toward others?  Too often I go through my day on auto-pilot, not in my heart, but in my head, thinking instead of feeling what I need to do and how I need to interact with others.  So today, I vow to spend more time feeling my way through the day, paying attention to what I am reflecting out into the universe and making sure it’s a reflection of the light and love that is my real self.  What are you reflecting today?

New Animal Communicators

Welcome to four new animal communicators!  That’s me in the upper left next to Christy, and Carol, Sian and Mary (in red) are kneeling.  I had a wonderful time on Saturday with these ladies as they learned (remembered) how to communicate with animals.  They got some great information from each others pets. I hope they continue their wonderful work.  Thank you all again for allowing me to be part of learning your new skill!!

The geese are gone

We haven’t seen any geese on our walks in the morning.  This must have been a gathering place for the geese to make final preparations before they headed south for the winter.  We see them in V- formations flying overhead these days.

Ted Andrews in Animal Speak says that the goose epitomizes the mystery of migration. They constantly shift formation, creating wind drafts and easier flights for those behind them in the formation.  This reminds us that as any one individual makes his or her quest, it becomes easier for others to do so as well.  They never fly directly behind one another.  Each goose’s view is unobstructed, reminding us that we should not undertake any quest in life without having a full view of what it entails.  In this way, the journey is facilitated for others.  The V-formation is very symbolic in itself.  It reflects by its shape an opening to new possibilities.  It is like an arrowhead, pointing to new directions and new possibilities, and with one end open, it also reflects an openness to new ideas.

May the magical power of goose remind us of how our path is made easier by others, and how many new possibilities we have for our lives every day.

Beauty – It’s Everywhere

Two noteworthy things happened yesterday.  First, we had the unenviable task of going to the funeral of a friend’s son who, at 23, passed away in a car accident.  Although, there were plenty of tears shed, there was also a lot of laughter as one by one friends and family recounted humorous stories about the young man’s life.  It was beautiful.

And second, I had a conversation with a man about porcupines.  He told me that he gets rid of any he sees.  I asked him why and he said because their quills are dangerous.  I told him I thought they were quite beautiful.  Incredible works of art by the Divine.  That I had just seen a rattle decoration made from those quills that was also beautiful.  He said, “Lisa, only you could find beauty in a porcupine!”.  I took it as the highest compliment.

There is beauty everywhere – in a community coming together to celebrate a young man’s life, and in the body of a porcupine.  Find yours today.
