Animal Communication and Shamanic Healing

Higher Self Bookstore

I am teaching animal communication in Traverse City on October 1st at the Higher Self Bookstore.  This photo of Calvin and post are done on my new phone.  The ancient practice of communicating with animals combined with modern blogging. Let’s see how it goes.  Oh, and if you know anyone who would like to join me on the 1st, they can call Ways To Wellness in Midland to sign up.

Life’s Purpose

There is lot of talk these days about finding your life’s purpose.  How to do it? Can we be fulfilled without it?  What happens if we live a life without expressing it?  Yet when I saw Hobbes this morning, I realized he had no worries about finding his.  In fact, I thought he might be doing just that.  Fulfilling his life’s purpose by just being.  By just being who he is and nothing more.  And how wonderful that is. ūüôā

New Beginnings

Swan and baby

I feel like I’m starting another phase of my life. ¬†Nothing earth-shattering has happened other than we just finished a hectic year. ¬†We had a guest from Mexico City for school, remodeled our office and basement, traveled some and had plenty of company this summer. ¬†So now it is time to re-center myself. ¬†My main plan is to slow down the pace of my life by remembering to be present. ¬†When I forget to do that, life passes by very quickly. ¬†I don’t know if doing it will change anything as I enter this new phase, but I’m willing to try. Maybe it will just make it easier to handle everything else.

Hibernating

Josie at work 1

This is the time for it. ¬†Bears do it, plants do it, why don’t humans? ¬†Instead we make commitments, run unnecessary errands and try to get everything done before spring comes. ¬†We go against nature, the rhythms of the seasons and go about our business, opposite of what spirit tells us to do. ¬†This year I’m listening. ¬†I went to the library and got some books, ordered the DVD series Sacred Contracts by Caroline Myss and stocked up on tea. ¬†I plan on hibernating, listening to the sound of silence, and just being. ¬†Not doing. ¬†I only wish I could get the phone to stop ringing.

Birthday Gift

My birthday gift 2

I received a birthday gift this morning. ¬†It was hand painted yesterday by a 13 year old girl we have staying with us for the school year. ¬†She’s a family friend from Mexico City we are fortunate enough to get to know while she is here. ¬†I wanted to share her creativity. She always has an idea about something we are doing. ¬†It is a wonderful reminder to keep my own creativity flowing, whatever it may be. ¬†And not be afraid to share it with anyone.

You Never Know Who You’ll Meet

Cathy and Lisa 1

I met Cathy Andrews at the Life In Balance Center here in South Carolina.¬† I’ve been here almost two months and am now getting ready to head home.¬† Cathy has a show on blogtalk radio called Wings on the Ground and asked me to be a guest in April to talk about animal communication and shamanic healing.¬† I am looking forward to spending an hour with her talking about things I love.¬† And though I miss my friends at home, it was really nice to be somewhere different and meet new people.¬† I like the surprise of seeing what, and who spirit brings into my life.

Winter Morning Sky

Winter morning sky 1

It was so beautiful the other morning.¬† And I tend to overlook it – watching my steps on ice, or looking down while I’m glass hunting on the beach.¬† I think I spend more time looking down than up.¬† But this was hard to miss.¬† I’ve been hibernating this winter, doing less, sleeping more . . . listening to the rhythms of nature and keeping my body in flow with it.¬† And even when I do get a chance to walk, I am more aware of the spirits of nature around me.¬† The spirit of snow, of wind, the spirit of crisp air and the spirit of the sky.¬† All still there, expressing themselves, while I’m inside, enjoying the peace quiet of the spirit of winter.

Snow Angel

Snow Angel

After a first attempt that didn’t turn out so well and then getting some tips from Bob, I made this snow angel the other day in the park.¬† I hadn’t made one since I was a lot, lot younger.¬† It had been a long time since I had been on my back in the snow.¬† Well, purposely.¬† Falling on ice doesn’t count.¬† I wondered if anyone would notice this angel, or would they just pass by without being aware it was there.¬† I think we tend to do that with real angels.¬† Pass by and not pay attention.¬† I’d like to start paying more attention to all the times angels appear in my life in whatever form – be it snow, human and even with no form.¬† They deserve to get noticed, and appreciated.¬† I did get my answer about this snow angel today.¬† Someone had cross-country skied right through its head.

Welcome Turkeys!

Two turkeys

I opened up the office door this afternoon and was surprised to see these two large, beautiful turkeys on our front lawn.¬† They casually walked around the fence to the front of our office and through the BP parking lot, on their way to I don’t know where.¬† I looked up turkey in my Animal Medicine cards to see what message I was getting.¬† According to Jamie Sams and David Carson, “Turkey is actually thought to be the Give-Away Eagle.¬† The philosophy of give-away was practiced by many tribes.¬† People in modern-day society, who have many times more than they need, should study the noble turkey who sacrifices itself so that we may live.¬† In Turkey’s death, we have our life”.¬† So I will honor these turkeys who made it through this Thanksgiving season.¬† And realize that I, too, have much more than I need.¬† In honoring the turkeys that showed up today, I will spend some time this weekend making a give-away pile for someone in need.¬† And I do hope to see them again.

Soul Place

Sheri's soul place

My friend, Sheri sent me this photo of her soul place.¬† It’s called Chapel Rock in the upper peninsula.¬† She said it’s a six mile hike to get to, but it feels like minutes.¬† When she gets there, she feels like she’s home.¬† And it calls to her if she hasn’t been in a while.¬† It started me thinking that we all have a soul place.¬† A place where we go in nature that feels like home.¬† A place that calls to us if we haven’t been in a while.¬† A place that when we walk in says, “Welcome!¬† I’m so glad you’re here.¬† Take your shoes off and stay a while.”¬† It could be the beach, the woods or out on the water.¬† It could be in a meadow, a garden, or on a mountain.¬† Find your soul place.¬† It’s calling you.
